Information and fares

2-2 bicycles may be carried on trains not marked with the above pictograms, except in coaches with compulsory seat reservation, on the vestibule of the first or last second class carriage (with access door) of the train.

Bicycle: a two-wheeled vehicle with a maximum length of 185 cm, powered by human power and an electric motor with a maximum power of 300 W, capable of carrying 1 person on one track.

• one passenger may carry one bicycle (except for bicycle + bicycle trailer, which may be carried together)
• all bicycles up to 16" wheel diameter are free of charge
• between 16" and 20" wheel diameter
  • olding bicycles may be carried free of charge when folded
  • non-folding (or non-folded) bicycles may be transported only on payment of a bicycle fare, subject to other rules applicable to bicycles
• bicycles with a wheel diameter of over 20" may be transported only on payment of a bicycle fare and in compliance with the other rules applicable to bicycles
• for the purpose of transport by train, an electric scooter powered by an electric motor of 300 W or less when not folded up is also considered to be a bicycle.
• the bicycle shall be folded with the frame folded in half and the electric scooter with the handlebars folded down in such a way that it exceeds the hand luggage size limit (30x50x80 cm) as little as possible
• it is the passenger's responsibility and liability to transport, load, unload and secure the bicycle
• when carrying a bicycle, the maximum weight of hand luggage is 10 kg
• bicycles of 16" or less and bicycles with a wheel diameter between 16" and 20" when folded may be carried in the passenger compartment of the vehicle and transported as hand luggage, provided that they do not obstruct other passengers and that their parts liable to cause pollution are packed
• charging of electric bicycles and scooters on board the vehicle is prohibited, except using a clearly marked power socket.
• children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult
• bicycles and scooters must be dismounted and pushed on the railway station premises and in the railway carriage
• before boarding, it is advisable to find out where the bicycle transport carriage is located on the arriving train and to position yourself accordingly on the platform

• specially designed bicycle: a single- or multiple-tracked vehicle with a maximum weight of 30 kg, propelled or towed by a man-powered or electrically powered motor and with a maximum length of 185 cm.
• specially designed bicycles include, but are not limited to, tandem bicycles, bicycle-trailers, cargo bicycles and wooden bicycles.
• may be carried only on trains marked with the pictogram Ʊ or Ʋ in the bicycle transport carriage
• not in other spaces of other carriages (e.g. vestibule of first and last second class carriages, multi-purpose space)
• for the carriage of specially designed bicycles, 2 bicycle tickets (and 2 bicycle space reservations on applicable trains) are required

• trains marked with the Ʊ and Ʋ in the timetable are recommended for groups
• group transport is defined as the transport of at least 6 bicycles on one train
• on regional lines, it is advisable to declare journeys for as few as 4 persons
• in the case of group travel, please inform the railway company so that the capacity on the train can be increased, subject to availability
• group transport of bicycles may be requested for group travel notified and cleared at least 7 days in advance at regional service sale points, provided that the request can be met

The price of the bike ticket is HUF 500 regardless of the distance

The validity period is 24 hours and is valid for a one-way trip.

We offer a 5% discount on the price of the bicycle tickets when using MÁV app or online.

When travelling on certain trains (typically InterCity and express trains), you will also need to buy a bicycle space reservation to travel with your bicycle ticket. Prices:

• 100 HUF (local specificity, in case of ample capacity)
• 300 HUF in general
• 650 Ft and 990 Ft only in the Balaton region in the pre-season, main season and post-season on trains with medium and small capacity.

For our regular cyclists, we offer a Cycling Country Pass, which is worth buying for as few as 10 trips (5 return).

The pass is valid for free travel throughout the country:

• MÁV-START (including the Szeged-Hódmezővásárhely tram-train),
• GYSEV,
• the entire network of MÁV-HÉV, and
• on specific BKK lines.

The price is 4950 HUF and valid for 30 days.

On applicable trains, a bicycle space reservation must also be purchased together with the bicycle country pass.

The conditions and fares for bicycle transport on the TramTrain services between Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely differ from those on the mainline railway.

• bicycles can be transported with "A-B-C bicycle zone tickets".
• price: 235 HUF.
• the cycle zone ticket is valid for 59 minutes from the time (day, hour, minute) indicated by the passenger. The journey can be terminated after the expiry date if the passenger is already on the TramTrain at the time of expiry.

• the valid TramTrain bicycle zone ticket can also be used on the high-speed train services between Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely.
• if the passenger wishes to travel with his/her bicycle on the tram and on another passenger train(s), the price of the "A-B-C bicycle zone ticket" valid for the tram and the ticket for the high-speed train are added together. However, the bicycle ticket for the whole journey can also be purchased at ticket offices, from ticket machines, online and in the MÁV app.
• on trams, cycling discounts - for members of the Hungarian Cyclists Club and START Klub cardholders - are not available.
• bicycle country pass is also valid on the tram-train.
• passengers may, subject to availability of space, use the multi-purpose spaces of the vehicles, equipped with fold-down seats, indicated by pictograms on the doors and floor.
• if the passenger is unable to board the tram with his bicycle due to lack of space, he may request a refund of his ticket and bicycle ticket, which will be certified on request by the ticket inspector on duty on board. If there is no ticket inspector on board the vehicle, the passenger may request a certificate of non-use of his ticket by calling the telephone number or sending an e-mail to the number indicated in Chapter III, point 2.2.1 c of the Passenger Transport Operating Rules.
• bicycles with an external wheel diameter of up to 16" and all folding bicycles and scooters, regardless of wheel diameter, may be carried free of charge on tram-trains.​
